Taking two years to complete, The Craftsmen Series: Chainsaw is one of Stacey Lee Webber’s most ambitious and intricate sculptures. Constructed from meticulously hand-soldered U.S. pennies with brass accents, this life-sized chainsaw transforms an aggressive, utilitarian tool into a gleaming symbol of endurance, labor, and transformation.
Every penny, a token of currency and toil, is soldered into place—its individual worth magnified through the sheer accumulation of time and precision. The chainsaw, a tool designed for destruction, is reimagined as an object of artistry and permanence. It cannot cut, yet it carries weight, serving as a powerful commentary on the physical and economic forces that shape our world.
Part of Webber’s ongoing Craftsmen Series, this piece pays homage to the workers whose tools define industry and progress, challenging the viewer to reconsider notions of value, power, and skilled labor.
