Galen Gibson-Cornell’s Compression merges form and imagery, with the shape of the piece echoing the arch of the woman’s body woven into its surface. Sourced from found street posters in New York City, Philadelphia, and Berlin, the composition follows the contours of the figure, blurring the line between structure and subject. The weaving process subtly distorts the image, creating a sense of movement and tension, as if the figure is both emerging from and dissolving into the layered fragments of urban life. Compression captures the fleeting nature of street imagery while transforming it into a sculptural, reimagined form.
