Found street posters from Berlin, New York City, Seattle, sliced and woven; metallic fabric, thread, zipper, magnets.
2024
Galen Gibson-Cornell’s Free Party radiates energy and movement, constructed from found street posters sourced in Berlin, New York City, and Seattle. Dominated by bold yellow hues, the piece features a heart at its center, partially obscured and distorted through the weaving process. Layered with metallic fabric, thread, zippers, and magnets, Free Party blurs the line between rigidity and fluidity, echoing the ever-changing nature of urban environments. The work captures the fleeting essence of public messaging and street culture, transforming discarded materials into a vibrant, reconstructed narrative of connection and spontaneity.
