In the Gale Bill series, Mark Wagner transforms U.S. currency into dynamic, wind-tossed forms, each piece capturing the sensation of movement as though the currency is swept up by a powerful gust of wind. The word “gale” refers to a strong, sustained wind, a fitting metaphor for the volatility and unpredictable nature of money. Wagner slices and expands the bills to evoke this force, with each piece reflecting a unique wave or shift. Through this process, he explores the impermanence of financial power, suggesting how wealth can be as fleeting and erratic as the wind itself. Mounted with a magnet on the back, Gale Bill becomes both a visually striking work of art and a subtle commentary on the fragile, ever-changing nature of value and control in the world of finance.
