Penny Flag is a striking example of Stacey Lee Webber’s ability to repurpose the remnants of her labor-intensive penny sculptures into a new, symbolic form. Crafted from hand-soldered U.S. pennies, this piece reimagines the American flag through a fabric of metal, merging the weight of currency with the traditional form of patriotic iconography.
Constructed from the leftover pennies of Webber’s previous works, Penny Flag embodies the cyclical nature of labor, using the materials of one creation to inspire the next. The pennies, painstakingly joined together, hang in a fluid, flag-like swag—challenging viewers to reflect on the complex relationship between labor, value, and national identity.
