Found street posters from Berlin, New York City, Seattle, Copenhagen; sliced and woven.
2024
Galen Gibson-Cornell’s Excircle weaves together fragments of urban life from Berlin, New York City, Seattle, and Copenhagen, creating a composition where colors, textures, and imagery collide. Sourced from found street posters, the piece reflects the layered history of these cities, with remnants of advertisements, text, and graphics interwoven into a new form. Through his meticulous process of reconstruction, Gibson-Cornell transforms ephemeral public messaging into a dynamic, abstracted surface that speaks to both movement and decay. Excircle embodies the cyclical nature of urban environments—where posters are pasted, torn away, and repurposed, leaving behind traces of their past.
