In Dissection (for Lee), Katarina Riesing presents a fragmented view of the human body, layering intimate glimpses of legs and hands like scattered, torn photographs on a table. The hyper-detailed colored pencil drawings mimic the soft grain of aged prints, their ripped edges suggesting both preservation and destruction. The composition feels like an examination—of memory, touch, or even a scientific study—where the body is observed in pieces rather than as a whole. The delicate yet precise rendering gives the impression of something both tender and clinical, as if the viewer is piecing together a narrative that remains just out of reach. There’s a quiet tension in these disembodied forms, evoking themes of dissection, vulnerability, and longing. As with much of Riesing’s work, Dissection (for Lee) plays with the boundaries between intimacy and detachment, inviting the viewer to linger in the space between presence and absence.
