Found street posters from Berlin, New York City, Seattle, sliced and woven; metallic fabric, thread, zipper, magnets
2024
Galen Gibson-Cornell’s Thunderbird pushes the boundaries of woven form, integrating zippers to create a dynamic, structured composition that extends beyond the flat surface. Sourced from found street posters in Berlin, New York City, and Seattle, the piece merges urban remnants with metallic fabric, thread, and magnets to construct a striking interplay of texture and dimension. A balance of soft peach and deep teal gives Thunderbird a nuanced, atmospheric quality, evoking movement and transformation. The use of zippers introduces an element of adaptability, allowing the work to shift and reshape, much like the urban environments that inspire it.
